7 Simple Healthy Lifestyle Tips
Hey there friends! Do you ever feel overwhelmed thinking about trying to “get healthy?” Does creating healthy habits seem overwhelming and a bit scary? Do you find yourself asking what’s the secret to living a healthy lifestyle? I’ve got some breaking news for you… living a healthy lifestyle is no secret! As a matter of fact, it can be as simple as small daily actions that move you forward every day.
But guess what! All those little steps start to add up and before you know it, you are well on your way to experiencing ideal health! We have to take care of the body that God’s given us. After recently going through an unexpected gallbladder removal surgery and endoscopy to remove a gallstone; I came to realize that the healthy lifestyle I have been living my whole life really did make a difference in not only how strong I was throughout my surgery and hospital stay and continued into my post surgical recovery.
Friends, you will NEVER go wrong in taking the time to instill some healthy habits into your daily routine. To get you started, here are seven of my FAVORITE lifestyle tips.
Hydrate before you caffeinate
Y'all KNOW this is one of my all time favorite tips. Hydration is KEY to fueling your brain and getting ready for a productive day. Who would’ve thought you could be productive by drinking water?! Here’s what to do: Fill up a large glass of water and sit it on your bedside table or bathroom before you go to sleep at night. Before you head to the kitchen for your morning coffee, drink that glass of water. You’ll be feeling energized first thing in the morning and you’ll get a jump start on your metabolism and water goal for the day!
Include fruits and vegetables in every meal
Including fruits and vegetables in every meal is a great way to start incorporating more healthy, whole foods into your diet. No need to start cold turkey and eat nothing but lettuce for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Something I like to do is add fruit to my oatmeal, like blueberries and banana! I also love adding sauteed spinach or chopped steamed broccoli into my eggs OR adding shredded carrots and peppers into my spaghetti sauce!
Take care of your spirit
Taking care of your spirit is VITAL to a healthy lifestyle. I believe that our spiritual health is the foundation to my physical health. We can’t live the full, healthy life God intends for us if we’re not feeding our spirit everyday! Start and end your day with some quiet time. Wake up early, drink your water, enjoy a cup of coffee and put some worship music on, read your Bible, read a devotional, pray or take a prayer walk.. That’s the first thing I do before anything else in the morning. My day doesn’t really start until it’s established in the Word of God. That way, my day is already founded on the ROCK and I have the “tracks to run on.” Then, I can go forth with peace, joy and HOPE as I am established in the Word of God!
Keep it simple! Healthy doesn’t have to be hard.
No need to overcomplicate healthy with fancy recipes or elaborate workouts. My favorite dinners are simple. Pick a protein, a healthy fat and a carb. Like grilled chicken marinated in a little olive oil, honey, fresh lime juice and little garlic salt & pepper, baked potato or baked sweet potato and roasted broccoli. SIMPLE but oh-so-yummy! Remember, we need to eat the right foods- foods in their most natural state- the way God made it... to fuel our bodies. Friend, you don’t have to starve yourself or do some crazy fad diet. Give your body the fuel it needs to thrive so that you can walk out the plans for your life with energy! Whooohooo!
Move every day
You all know I love to move. Dancing, skipping, count me in! Do something every day that gets your body moving! Go on a walk, march in place, walk to the end of your driveway, park far away at the grocery store, take the stairs instead of an elevator. BONUS travel tip: While staying at a hotel, challenge yourself to use the stairwell at least once a day or more instead of the elevator! you’ll feel so much better when you start moving. Our bodies were designed to move. You’ll get stiff and achy if you’re idle for too long.
Take care of your skin. Find a good skincare routine you love.
I’ve always prioritized skincare my whole life. Did you know it’s the largest organ in your body? Oftentimes, taking care of our skin is neglected. What you put in your body and on it matters! Remember that water I told you about, that will help your skin too! Think about this… many of the chemicals found in many skincare products can actually be absorbed into your body- crazy right? Find a skincare line with cleaner ingredients and prioritize skincare every day & night. When you eat whole foods, exercise regularly, get enough sleep AND use good skincare, you’ll be amazed at the way you GLOW! My absolute FAVORITE skincare is Arbonne. I’ve used it for years, tried many other products and I ALWAYS come back to Arbonne! Check out the products I LOVE!
Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep - Get up in the morning and get ready for your day!
I’m a firm believer of waking up in the morning with PURPOSE! Get up, brush your teeth, put a little mascara on, pull your hair back in a pony OR “fluff & puff” and get dressed for the day. You’ll feel so much better doing that, than lounging around in your pajamas until 10 am.
I hope you enjoy my tips and try some of them, too! Now tell me, what are some of your favorite lifestyle tips?
